Where to buy watercolour materials in Amsterdam?

I’m always on the hunt for a good art shop and listed below are the ones I’ve found in Amsterdam so far. I will add to this list of shops as I find more! Please note that the information below about specific brands/products was correct at the time of my visit, but of course this will change over time. It is therefore best to phone the shop or check their website before making a visit.

Van der Linde

Van der Linde is a well stocked art supply store located close to the Anne Frank House and De 9 Straatjes. It was spacious, well lit, plus the staff were friendly & helpful. In terms of watercolour brands, they had a wide selection including eg Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Schmincke, Daniel Smith and Winsor & Newton. For brushes, there were a few brands and mainly Da Vinci. For paper, there were loose sheets and pads.

Address: Rozengracht 38, 1016 NC Amsterdam

Van Beek Art Supplies

Van Beek Art Supplies dates back to 1895 and is located close to the Rijksmuseum. This store has a lot of character. In terms of watercolour brands in tubes, they had e.g. Schmincke, Winsor & Newton and Daniel Smith. For brushes, there were a few brands including Escoda, Da Vinci and Raphael. For paper, there were loose sheets and pads. Van Beek Art Supplies have 8 stores nationwide. Address: Stadhouderskade 63-65, 1072 AD Amsterdam

Splendith

Splendith is an online store that stocks a very nicely curated selection of watercolour products, including ones that are tricky to get in the Netherlands. I’m particularly happy that they stock Princeton brushes and Holbein watercolours as these are definitely a staple for me. I’ve ordered a few things from them including watercolour paper, pens, paintbrush and sketchbook. Their products have always been beautifully packaged and sent out very quickly too.
