Anemone flower large tote bag

When I first moved to Amsterdam, I became really inspired by Delft blue pottery. There was something very magical about actually living in the Netherlands and being able to visit places like the Royal Delft Museum. For this pattern I wanted to respectfully paint something in the style of Delft pottery but with a slight modern twist. I analysed a lot of Delft pottery to understand the different styles and techniques used to paint flowers. Once I'd figured out the parameters of how I was going to paint - I also consciously tried to depict these flowers in as many different positions as possible to give a sense of liveliness and fluidity to the pattern.

Method & materials: Flowers hand painted in Schmincke's delft blue watercolour
